Co-hosted by the Policy Center for the New South and the World Bank’s Independent Evaluation Group (IEG), this event brings together senior government officials, World Bank representatives, and other experts to discuss the findings from a recently published independent evaluation of the World Bank’s support to the Kingdom of Morocco over the last decade and its lessons for future collaboration around the implementation of Morocco’s New Development Model.
Morocco’s adoption of a New Development Model has marked a new stage in its development trajectory and opened the door to new waves of ambitious reforms—including accelerating its ecological transition, bolstering its human capital, and attracting private investments. As the World Bank sets out to support the Kingdom in this development shift, many lessons can be learned from a decade of collaboration. The IEG Country Program Evaluation provides key insights into what worked, what did not, and why in the World Bank’s support to Morocco between 2011 and 2021 and offers lessons for the future partnership between the World Bank and the Kingdom.
The event will start with a brief presentation of the report’s findings followed by a moderated panel discussion bringing together diverse and high-level speakers. In dialogue with the audience, the experts will reflect on the report’s overarching findings and how they might inform the future of the World Bank and the Kingdom of Morocco’s collaboration, especially on what it takes to achieve the complex reforms for a Just Transition.
