The World Bank Group in Bangladesh

Acknowledgments

The report was prepared by an Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) team led by Lourdes N. Pagaran (senior evaluation officer). Jeffrey Allen Chelsky (manager) and Oscar Calvo-Gonzalez (director) provided guidance under the overall direction of Alison Evans (director-general, Evaluation, and vice president).

The evaluation team included IEG staff and consultants: Corky de Asis, Breda Griffith, Erika Jorgensen, Franz Loyola, Johan Manuel Lopez, Albert Martinez, Richard Tobin, Anthony Tyrrell, and Dileep Wagle. Ali Khadr and Soniya Carvalho provided advice throughout the evaluation process. Administrative support was provided by Patricia Acevedo and Dung Thi Kim Chu in Washington, DC, and Mohammad Baharul Alam and Nubah Anan in Dhaka.

The team benefited from upstream discussion and advice on methodology from Jos Vaessen, IEG, methods adviser, and Harsh Anuj.

External reviewers included Shantayanan Devarajan (professor, Georgetown University), Eteri Kvintradze (International Monetary Fund resident representative in Sri Lanka and Maldives), and Marilou Jane Uy (director of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four on International Monetary Affairs and Development).

IEG is grateful to the numerous representatives of the government, development partners, private sector entities, and nongovernmental organizations who provided valuable insights on the World Bank Group’s engagement in Bangladesh.

IEG extends its deep appreciation for the support provided by Bank Group management and staff, particularly the Country Management Unit and staff, both previous and current, who provided valuable time, information, insights, and feedback to the evaluation team.
