The World Bank Group has committed to achieving universal access to electricity by 2030 under the Sustainable Energy for All initiative. However, today, more than one billion people remain without access to electricity around the globe. Another billion have to live with chronically inadequate or unreliable service.

A recent evaluation by IEG looked at the World Bank Group's role in supporting electricity access over the period, FY00-FY14.
