Marialisa Motta, an Italian national, has been the Manager of the Finance, Private Sector, Infrastructure and Sustainable Development Unit of the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) since February 2020. Prior to joining IEG, Marialisa was managing Finance, Private Sector, Trade and Competitiveness work for the World Bank in Europe and Central Asia and (before then) in Latin America. She has supervised analytical and advisory work and lending portfolios of several billions, including to support business development and financial inclusion in Mexico and Colombia, competition in Argentina, regional development in Croatia, market reforms in Uzbekistan, and agricultural and tourism development in Tajikistan.

Before becoming a World Bank regional manager, Marialisa was the manager of the joint International Finance Corporation – World Bank Investment Climate Reform Advisory Global Unit, which during her tenure supported business regulation reforms in more than 50 countries around the world.

Marialisa joined the World Bank Group as a Young Professional in 1999.  Earlier in her career, Marialisa was a research fellow at Bocconi University in Milan and an entrepreneur and a summer associate with the Boston Consulting Group. She has a Masters in Public Policy and Management from the Yale School of Management and a degree in Business Administration from Bocconi University.
