Juha I Uitto was until recently Director of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Independent Evaluation Office (IEO), a position he held since 2014. Prior to that, he was with UNDP where his last position was Deputy Director of UNDP IEO. From 1999 to 2002, he worked as Senior M&E Specialist in the GEF. For more than two decades, he has conducted and managed evaluations at the country, regional and global levels focusing on the nexus of development and environment. He is former Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG) and chair of the UNEG working group on environmental and social impact. He spent most of the 1990s at the United Nations University as coordinator of environmental and sustainable development research and training programs. Originally from Finland, he holds a PhD in Social and Economic Geography.
