Ms. Sotirova, a Bulgarian national, has more than 20 years of development experience. Since 2019, Ms Sotirova  has managed the Human Development and Corporate Evaluations unit in the Independent Evaluation Group of the of the World Bank.

Ms. Sotirova joined the Bank in 1994 and served in key positions across different regions of the World Bank. She started her career in the Bank as a Human Development Specialist for Europe and Central Asia where she worked on social protection in numerous countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. She led the World Bank human development program in Ukraine and Belarus, led the World Bank country programs in Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Jamaica and the Caribbean.

She holds graduate degrees in International Relations, Economics, and Public Policy from the University of Sofia, John Hopkins University Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies; and London School of Economics.
