Post Evaluation Actions: Management Action Record
The annual Management Action Record (MAR) is a tool for World Bank Group (WBG) management and IEG to track and understand the progress in implementing IEG recommendations. The process aims to support adaptation and learning, and to provide accountability. Using WBG Management’s self-assessment as an input, IEG prepares an annual assessment and rating of progress toward achieving the outcomes of active recommendations and assesses the implementation challenges and strengths. WBG Management’s annual self-assessment, and IEG’s MAR validation are presented to the World Bank Board’s Committee on Development Effectiveness for its review and oversight.
IEG and the World Bank Group reformed the MAR process in 2020 to better support accountability in the follow-up of IEG evaluation recommendations. The aim was to promote more meaningful tracking, dialogue, and self-assessment of WBG management’s implementation of IEG recommendations. With the MAR reform, IEG recommendations are prioritized and strategically focused on outcomes to enhance WBG’s development effectiveness and are aligned with WBG’s corporate commitments and institutional priorities.
