Amit Patel is a Senior Evaluation Officer in IEG’s Methods Advisory Function where he advises evaluation teams on evaluation design and methods and contributes to quality assurance of approach papers and evaluations. He also helps test, validate, and scale the use of innovative methods with the advancement of data science and artificial intelligence. Amit also contributes to evaluation teams’ capacity development through training, clinics and learning events.  

Prior to joining IEG, Amit was an Associate Professor of Public Policy and Public Affairs, and Graduate Program Director for Ph.D. and Public Policy and Master of Public Policy at University of Massachusetts Boston. Amit’s research focused on international development, mainly on housing, access to water and sanitation, and urban health in slum communities. Amit has used and integrated a wide variety of methods for his research, both quantitative and qualitative. Amit is recipient of research grants from the National Science Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, International Development Research Centre, Urban Institute, and the World Bank Group that has led to numerous journal articles, book chapters, and teaching cases. Amit also has over a decade of experience teaching research design, methods, and public policy courses at master’s and doctoral level. Amit has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from George Mason University, and prior education in Management from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Urban and Regional Planning from CEPT University, and Architecture from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in India.
