IEG evaluates the activities of the World Bank Group (the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and International Development Association) to focus on specific countries or projects, and to ensure a systematic assessment of portfolio performance using the following types of evaluations:
- Country-Focused Evaluations: Country Program Evaluations examine Bank performance in a particular country, usually over the past four to five years, and report on its conformity with the relevant World Bank Country Partnership Framework (CPF) and on the overall effectiveness of the specific CPFs.
-
Cluster Country Program Evaluations: Over the last 3 years IEG has been piloting an approach to CPEs which clusters them according to a particular client group. The objective of this approach has been partly to promote greater cross country learning between countries and regions which face some common challenges, and also to improve coverage and efficiency of CPEs by doing them in small groups (typically 4 CPEs in one cluster).
- Project-Level Evaluations: Completed projects are evaluated through Project Performance Assessment Reports (PPARs). They are carried out after World Bank projects have been completed and involve site visits to assess performance and results.
- Country Learning Strategy Reviews: These reviews of past strategies feed into new country strategies.
