Private Sector Development

Title:

Private Sector Development

The development paradigm has shifted toward private investment, and the private sector has become central in development strategies. Two World Bank Group agencies that support economic development in developing countries through private-sector development are the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). The shares of support provided by these institutions have grown, rising in the past decade from 21 to 35 percent of Bank Group financing. As part of its work, IEG continuously assesses and improves the quality of IFC and MIGA's policies, practices, and instruments to ensure that they remain relevant to evolving corporate and stakeholder success.
